Julie Simon., Ph.D., CI, CT, has been an American Sign Language/English Interpreter for 27 years and an interpreter educator for 20 years. Julie is founder and president of The Language Door, an education and resource network for interpreters and translators. Julie serves on the RID Affiliate Chapter Relations Committee and on the Editorial Board of the CIT International Journal of Interpreter Education. Her doctorate is in Language, Reading and Culture from University of Arizona.

Interpretación consecutiva
La interpretación consecutiva requiere estrategias de toma de decisiones diferentes a las de la interpretación simultánea, como saber cuándo y cómo usar la IC durante la interpretación, conocer de las estrategias de toma de notas, y saber cómo utilizar las memorias de corto plazo y de trabajo en forma efectiva. Desarrollo de habilidades intralingüísticas

| "Consecutive Interpreting"
Consecutive interpreting requires different decision-making strategies than simultaneous interpreting, such as knowing when and how to use CI in one’s interpretation, dealing with note taking strategies, and knowing how to effectively utilize short-term and working memories. This workshop will provide an overview of theories relating to consecutive interpreting and its effective use in our work, and include discussion about memory skills development and note taking techniques. Participants will have opportunity to practice using consecutive interpreting. |
"Intralingual Skills Development"
This session will provide participants with an opportunity to develop their intralingual (knowledge and skills within a language) skills in English, Spanish and American Sign Language through individual and small-group activities with focus on memory skills development and comprehension, and explore ways to improve their fluency in each of these languages. In addition, this session will provide an overview of language acquisition and learning theories and allow participants to explore their own language acquisition processes. |
