Esta presentación está dirigida al intérprete trilingüe que trabaja en entornos de VRS y VRI. Concentraremos nuestra charla en las variaciones culturales, la diversidad y los problemas de lenguaje que afectan estos entornos. También realizaremos ejercicios sobre el uso apropiado del registro en los entornos de VRS y VRI y hablaremos de algunos de los problemas actuales relacionados con el uso adecuado del lenguaje. Habrá oportunidad para ejercicios tanto didácticos como prácticos.

"Trilingual Interpreters: Issues in the VRS/VRI world"
This presentation is targeted to the trilingual interpreter working in the VRS and VRI setting. We will focus our discussion on the cultural variations, diversity and language issues that affect these settings. We will also do exercises on the appropriate use of register in the VRS and VRI settings and will discuss some of the current issues regarding adequate use of language. There will be opportunity for both didactic and practice exercises. |
Biography/Biografía:
Dr. Aponte has been providing services for the Deaf Community since 1992. She developed and currently is the Program Director of the first and only ITP Program in Puerto Rico at Universidad del Turabo in Gurabo, PR. She was the chair of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT) 2008 conference in San Juan, PR and is a current board member of CIT. She is the past President of the Puerto Rico RID Affiliate Chapter. She is also President of PR Sign Language Connection Inc. a non for profit organization that serves the Deaf community in Puerto Rico. She has a doctoral degree from Ponce School of Medicine in the Clinical Psychology Program and a specialization in Neuropsychology. She also holds a master’s degree in Counseling from Gallaudet University. She has participated in the cultural events such as Deaf Way 2002 and the Deaf Olympics in Denmark in 1997. Dr. Aponte has presented and interpreted in various presentations and shows in: Colombia, London, PR and the US. Also was the Co-chair of the Mano a Mano Hispanic Interpreter Conference in Chicago (2003) and hosted RID Region II 2004 Conference in Puerto Rico and Mano a Mano. |
Biography/Biografía:
Mr. Díaz has more that 15 year of experience in the interpreting field. He is currently a part-time faculty at the Turabo University ITP Program. He is also currently the manager of the VIP Program for Spanish VRS services at Sorenson. He dedicates much of his time to training and mentoring interpreters in the trilingual setting. Mr. Diaz is well known in the field of interpreting in Puerto Rico and in the US for his ample experience in the Spanish –ASL interpreting field. He has been past president of the Puerto Rico RID Affiliate Chapter and past Mano a Mano Board member |
